The issues of equality traverse through the plots of Holes. We see the bad luck of Stanley as he is present in wrong place in the wrong time. We also see the story of the great great grandfather and how he was guilt ridden for not being able to keep his promises. We also see the love story of a schoolteacher and an onion seller. The racial angle here is focussed upon because at the time this story is set, racial discrimination is legal. I find the notion of equality here that a black man and a white woman fell in love with each other and kissed each other.
